Visits

Proud Places helps young people improve their life choices as well as their life skills. We offer site visits and craft workshops, a chance to explore London behind-the-scenes and develop local knowledge and pride. We are specialists in alternative provision schools and youth groups but also work with primary and secondary pupils across the city.
All staff are DBS-checked and we select projects local to you - ideally within walking distance - where restoration work is happening. We can arrange for conservators to speak to groups, giving demonstrations and with professional guidance, encouraging individuals to try restoration techniques for themselves.
Visits are individually tailored to each group, and entirely free of charge.

Unveiling events
Once a restoration project is completed, we invite groups back for a community unveiling event. Individuals are invited to cut the ribbon, often with the local Mayor or key stakeholder, speak about their visit and present any creative work made during their workshops. This can give young people a huge sense of warmth and pride.
About Proud Places
The programme was developed with our Proud Places Young Ambassadors and launched during the pandemic in October 2020 with funding from the Jones Day Foundation. To date we have worked with over 10,000 young people, and the programme continues to expand.
Proud Places is represented on the Partners' Board of the Mayor of London's Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm.
“You never know how your life will turn out, you never know if one day something could change your life forever. So just hearing stories that could be inspirational of people who continue to thrive can
be inspiring.”

“I was one of the first people to fill up my bottle from this fountain. It makes me really proud. In fifty years I can walk past this fountain with my friends and say- I helped to restore that!"
